17 July Start watch 0915. ♂/02 White-Yellow seen right off the bat.
0840, a NB ♀ seen briefly in the spindly Valley Oak perch:
0930 ♂/02 works sap tree, returns to Valley Oak, the
one to the south of the sap tree. 0931 finally ♂426
Black/Orange-White in the sap tree. I was beginning
to worry about him, as he [illegible] hadn't been seen in
3 weeks: Lots of action!! 1005 juv 497 Red/Black
Red seen, sap sucking. Yeah! All adults now seen,
♂426, ♂321 and ♀427 + ♀320. ♂426, ♂102 and
♀427 ♀320 were all preening in the valley oak while
♀427 sapsucked and ♂321 [presumed] harrited from
granary. Later ♂426 + ♂321 together in sap tree,
no interaction, juv. 497 begged from ♂426 by pulling
+ tugging at l°. 1020 ♀427 flycatches from sap
tree, feeds 497. 1035 juv 497 begs persistently from
♂321, who directs pecks at head of 497. 1040, ♀427
feeds the baby (sap?) after begging. 1042, ♂321 flies
to mistletoe-laden oak next to sap tree, with juicy looking
insect (homopteran?) feeds part to juv 497. End watch at
1100. To sum up, all adults (save ♂428 who must
surely be gone) and juv. 497 seen. No sign of juv. 498.
21 July Start watch 0915. 2 NB young orioles, Nuttall's woodpecker, and
wrentit in sap tree when I arrive (FD) ♂426, sapsucks, live oak.
Strange, overcast day, distant thunder. 0845 ♂ oriole chases wrentit
with ♂321 sitting right there. He does not chase oriole.
juv 497 also seen. 0900 ♀427, D Blue-Red, sap tree, with ♂321
+ juv. 497. 0910 ♂426 chases oriole. 0915 ♂321 fails to chase
