25 May In a brilliant move on my part, I came
up here around 1200 for nest watching,
and promptly watched the wrong hole for
1 1/2 hours before I discovered the correct
hole. In two hours, I saw only ♂
426 Black/Orange-white, take about a
1 hour incubation bout. Also saw another
bird harvest + eat an acorn. Watch
details on back.
27 May Up for another nest watch on a chilly, breezy
day. Details on back.
19 June On my first day here as a "summer resident," I
took a dull nest watch uphere today. Walt had
checked the nest thcday before, and found two healthy
babies. The "details" of the watch are on the back.
Also saw ♂102 White/Yellow briefly at the
granary.
20 June Another nest watch, this from 0600-0945. It started
off very dull, but from 0820-0900 there was
an incredible feeding frenzy, much flycatching, etc.
A ♀ carrying food came to the hole, but left
without feeding (♀427 Dblue/Red). Details of the watch
are on the back. Also saw an intruding ♀ mildly chased
by one of the ♂♂. Didn't get a good look, but I
did see DBlue-wht(N) on the lower left leg of the
♀ (former-)Arnold 3, [illegible] ♀290?). That
