1979 Ronald L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Road 1 Hastings Reservation 19 June Tried to watch roosting at the nest last night (nobody) and tonight. Tonight somebody with a white band on its left leg went in for a while at dusk before flying out again later. Nobody roosted. The bird that was there briefly was presumably [illegible] 486, Although I desperately need to update my field list. 16 July Start watch by diddling around near the granary. Moving into hide at 0905. 0930, female 269 confirmed, Dblue-white(N)/white, Black-Rod/Wht-Red, M/ Black-Rod (?), could this be [illegible] male486? Again, are Live Oaks preferred Sap trees at this time of the year? 0955 male294, BPink/Dblue- Yellow seen in sycamore, covering against it as a Red-tailed Hawk flew about 20-30 meters overhead. 1030 female444 Dblue-white(N)/orange from Arnold 3 Lands here briefly, in granary.
