9 Sept Dabbled around on the Arnold in the morning, seeing lots of migrants (20 Western Tanagers, some eating Rhamnus berberis?, 8 Cedar Waxwings, 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch, 1 Say's Phoebe).
"Administrative" stuff in the afternoon, the bug collection which featured me rolling the panel truck into the Big Creek ditch near the pump. Non-roosting at CA2, then cake at Red House with Pam & Walter.
10 Sept Slept late, then got the pitfall bugs and shut down the pitfall traps for the year. Helped Jimmy and Betty extract the Panel truck from the creek bed, then watched the nest at School Hill. After lunch, Nancy and I went shopping (a very hot afternoon, reaching 100° here for the first time this summer) then went for a dip in the Davis' pool. The high point of the day came in walking toward the pool when Nancy and I saw the Roadrunner that has been hanging around Water Tank Hill (Lois Bell watched him for 15 min. yesterday from her kitchen window). Roosting at School Hill.
11 Sept Very hot (102°F)! Started with an Am watch at School Hill. Rest of the day was spent cleaning the bunkhouse and prepping for dinner with Pam & Walter at the bunkhouse. Nancy & I had a very nice swim in the heat of the day. Dinner went pretty well, despite the heat.
12 Sept Sorted bugs and set out Acorn Traps with Walter today (hot!)
Dave Wake and Harry Greene visited today, and we chatted with them for awhile. Walt and I checked the Westgate non-nest, another PM swim, and packing up to go to Berkeley tomorrow.
