30 Aug A foggy, cloudy early morning, with even a touch of rain
watched + generally checked up on the Arnold, particularly,
"Bianca" and Lower Arnold 2. Relaxed and read The Boat
all afternoon, then watched non-roosting at School Hill West.
Up on the Arnold, I saw a flock of ~18 Cedar
Waxwings! Winter is on the way.
31 Aug Diddled around at Blomone in the morning, but then
grocery shopping with Nancy in the afternoon.
Upon our return, Walter gave us the exciting news
that the fall nesting season is on!! School Hill had
2 eggs!! Nancy, Walter, Pam + I had dinner at Wills
Fargo, then saw Camelot at Hidden Valley. Ice cream
with the Griffins, then return to H/UTR -- late!
1 Sept Up before dawn and up to School Hill, in the hopes that
I could get some behavioral data during egg-laying.
Didn't accomplish much, but I did watch #260 actually
lay an egg! (see SH notes). With 3 hrs sleep, I
slept all afternoon, weighed bugs after dinner.
2 Sept Another intensive School Hill watch in the AM, bug collecting
in the PM. Saw a genuine imm ♀ (kestrel-sized) Sharp-shinned
Hawk up on School Hill. Roosting at School Hill.
3 Sept School Hill watch in the morning on this Labor Day
Read + slept most of the rest of the day.
4 Sept Checked up on Buckeye, then a School Hill nest watch.
clothes washing, oatmeal-cookie-making in the afternoon,
then a nice dinner at Red House with Pam, Walter &
Nancy.
