1979 Ronald L. Mumme 26 Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, CA 18 July A productive day it was! Great watches at Finch (AM) and Road 3 (AM+PM) censusing the entire groups. The heat of the day saw me receive notice that the AOU abstract had been accepted, and take a swim in the Davis' Pool with Walter, Pam + Nancy. Tried to watch roosting at the nest at Gazebo (walt has designs on the unbanded ♂) but saw nothing, as I got there quite late. Oh, I did see a Belted Kingfisher at the Finch Creek bridge. 19 July Hardly accomplished anything today. Wasted the morning at Buckeye, seeing no birds, then went into town with Nancy, picking up a dead ♂ Cal Quail on the way in. We saw it as it was hit by a truck, and ate if for dinner. Tough as nails, but a good vehicle for rice, mushrooms + onions. Also washed some clothes, and talked with both Dave Winkler and Frank on the phone. 20 July Started the day with pretty good watches at Blow-one and Gazebo. Jan Caulfield rolled in around noon to trap some Gophers, and we chatted awhile, the helped Nancy pack ⚪ and make a Peach Cobbler for the "goodbye cabin, hellow⚫ Buck" party! ⚪ Fooled around a little with stuff for the AOU talk for awhile. Nancy is reading this over my shoulder and is [illegible] amused at my command of the English language and my "indescribable" wit. The party was great fun, and I ate enormous quantities of Icecream, Cobbler, Watermelon, Enchiladas, Fruit Salad, Chili Reino et al. Not to mention the wine which has indoubatibly influenced this entry.
