1979 Ronald L. Mumme 22 Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, CA (9 July) Larry in the afternoon, then had yet another great, glutonous dinner at the cabin with Larry & Nancy. Watched roosting at Buckeye, before I called Pete Myers to find out that I can have his apartment in the fall. Cake & Ice Cream followed at the Cabin. 10 July Hardly accomplished anything today. Tried to watch for birds at the "Lawrence M. Hanks Memorial Territory," seeing nothing, then tried to see some fledgling dominance interactions at Blom-one, seeing nothing. After lunch I watched the nest at Buckeye, seeing next to nothing (one visit in 3 hours. Shades of Black Oak). Watched Roosting at Buckeye. 11 July Took a morning watch at Buckeye, followed by a grocery run to mid-valley with Larry & Nancy, followed by a blown couple of hours at Finch trying to see birds. A fun champagne-chocolate cake-watermelon dessert topped the day at Red House with the whole crew plus Ted Kaehler. The occasion was Larry's eventual departure, scheduled for 13 July. Also, "Welcome Back Skylab" Pinnacles National Monument, San Benito Co., CA 12 July A day off at Hastings. Walter, Larry, Nancy and I explored the Pinnacles National Monument, going on a rather long, dry hike along the Mt High Peaks cave trails. Very hot, but we had fun, and and saw a few good birds.
