25 June Slept late this morning before going out to Westgate
to watch for birds, and saw a one-legged bird
(see Westgate notes). I then trucked into town for
groceries, and then back up to the Arnold for yet
another in a continuing series of exciting watches at
Black Oak. I tried to watch roosting at Arnold 3
while Walt was trying his luck at Bianca, but I
learned absolutely nothing.
26 June An early watch at Black Oak (one feeding visit, a letter
to Russ & Judy) got the day off to a roaring start.
I then had a grim watch at the nest at Buckeye,
after Larry showed me where it was. In between, I
checked all the holes on the Arnold, seeing nothing
that looked like nesting activity. For roosting, I
took in Westgate, hoping that they would roost in
an ambushable hole. I'm not sure, but it doesn't
look at all good.
27 June Began the day watching up at Buckeye before moving
on to the Arnold for a Black Oak nest watch, "helloing"
the Arnold holes, and watching roosting at Arnold 1.
Pam then had Larry, Nancy, Ruth Griffin and I
up for dessert (pettifoors) and champagne. Two glasses
of champagne on an empty stomach (I hadn't had
dinner yet) were too much for me. I felt a little
looped.
28 June A pretty productive day, watch-wise. Black Oak
actually came through (at last!) with an interesting
