1979 Ronald L. Mumme 17 Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., CA 22 June Interesting Day! Started out with another lousy watch at Black Oak a 2-visit job. I then looked for birds at Bianca + Lower Arnold 2 before stumbling onto a mini-revolution at Arnold 3 (see copious Arnold 3 Notes). I totally blew a nest watch at Lower Haystack, but consoled myself with Champagne + Carrot Cake at the 500th bird party at Red House. 23 June Today turned out OK. Watched first at Arnold 3, catching a little more revolution action, and then looked for birds at Lower Arnold 2 and Bianca. Then I took my obligate "Wasted-three-hours" nest watch at Black Oak. Later I helped Walt check a nest (three 5 day young, one extreme runt) at gazebo, then I watched for birds briefly but successfully at 1800. Finished up by watching roosting at Lower Arnold 2 and Arnold 3, 24 June After the token "no-visit" watch at Black Oak [illegible] in the morning, during which I finished a letter to Ken Bradbury and started a letter to Nelson, I lounged around the bunkhouse in the early afternoon, then returned to the Arnold with Walt to set an unsuccessful ambush at LA2, and take in a three-visit watch at Black Oak. Returning from the Arnold after-dark, the day was saved between by a Spotted Skunk near the gate and the first crossing, plus a doe and two spotted fawns.
