1979 Ronald L. Mumme Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, CA 19 June Walt and I sent off the abstract of the "nest help" talk for the AOU meeting first thing in the morning before driving up to the Arnold. I had a boring watch at Black Oak (see notes). After lunch we cruised up Poison Oak Hill, seeing few birds, no nests but lots of granaries and former (?) territories. I then tried to watch at Y for an hour, but the birds there seem to have disappeared. Many fledgling Orioles around the picnic tables as I write this at 1930. Plaque nestlings (3) fledged today, 2 fledgling crows with two adults around, Brood of young quail. In the evening I again watched the nest hole (or former nest hole) at Road 1, and though I saw a white-banded (left leg) bird enter, it didn't stay. The nest is probably kaput. 20 June Productive day!! Good nest watch at Black Oak, good group watches at Arnold 3 and 1800, a good dinner at Hastings Cabin with Nancy, Larry, Robbi; + Sue. The only negative aspect was that I struck out trying to watch roosting at Arnold 3. 21 June Not such a productive day!! I had terrible watches at Black Oak + Arnold 3, But I did get to see Walter- band wickers #497-502 (Black Oak + Finch). A decent nest watch at Lower Haystack in the PM, then another fine dinner at the cabin on Robbi's last day here.
