1979 Ronald L. Mumme Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., CA 19 May sycamore west of the gate sycamore along the road (Westgate granary tree). Fundinner at Red House. 20 May walked up to the Arnold with Trish, seeing a young Rattlesnake eating a Cnemidophorus lizard. After lunch, we drove up to the Coast Road, and then drove south to Big Sur before returning via Pt. Lobos. Enroute I saw one Pigeon Guillemot, 40 Common Murres 4 Pelagic Cormorants, 5000 Brandt's Cormorants the latter two at Pt. Lobos. Also spotted 4 Sea Otter, and some kind of Seals, at Pt. Lobos. 24 May Arrived here at about 1400 on a clear, warm day. Spring is giving way to summer, as the creek flow is starting to dwindle, things are getting brown, etc. Lupinus is still with us, but not for much longer. I watched up at School Hill in the afternoon, (nest with eggs) and tried (unsuccessfully) to tell which of the ♂♂ spent the night in the nest. 25 May Boy, was I ever a total incompetent today. First, I watched the nest at School Hill, not realizing that the tape recorder was fouled up, thereby wasting the morning. I then tried to watch the nest at Black Oak, and it took me an hour to realize that I was not watching the right hole. Arcal
