1979 Ronald L. Mamme Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey CO., CA (10 May) that they nested in during 1978, in the Q. lobata granary, about 10 M high in a hole facing downward. Walt climbed up (via rope ladder) and found three eggs. The group isn't well known, but one of the males is from Hay Blom, and the other male could be that birds older brother, or (from Hay blom) or an offspring of Blom one 1977. It will be interesting to see how the breeding duties break down. Birds (male and female) have just moved in to Y, the female an old Westgate bird, the male unbanded, and Larry Yanks reported a lone warbling and garrick-ing female back at Chongo (unbanded). I also heard (through Walt) that Nancy had seen some dominance interactions at 1500, the 2-male 1976 sibs from School Hill. The dom. bird was the largest of the nestlings, and he took a major role in nesting last season, while the other male took a very minor role. Encouraging! Saw my first Purple Finch and Lazuli Bunting, both singing near Big Creek. Wilson's Warblers, Black-throated Gray Warblers, N. Orioles, Ash-throated Flycatchers, Grosbeak etc. all around. Walt showed me a Clark Sparrow nest (Seggs) under some Lupinus near some blue oaks in Blomquist's pasture. House Sparrow (female) at the Davis'. 11 May A terrific day, very warm & sunny, I started off by having a good watch at School Hill, and while there I had some fun general ornithology, I
