1978 Ronald L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus School Hill Hastings Reservation (13 Oct) Barrit-cut since I've been up here. The lone \u2640 has been flycatching almost the entire time. I haven't seen him harvest or store a single acorn. Of course, there doesn't seem to be any acorns for him to harvest. As for the other five birds in the group, I can't imagine where they might be. I walked up and around the hill area, seeing zilch. Lots of Cedar Waxwings, and lots of Mistletoe up here, but most of the Waxwings were flycatching. 1050 I've had enough! Going to check stores. 1100 Well, I take a little of the above back. Roughly 100 stored acorns, But since I'm not familiar with their granary areas, I could have easily missed many more. Turkey retrix under granary. 1115 So long! 14 Oct Tried to watch roosting here with Walt, but saw no birds. Weird things are happening here. 11 Dec Start watch 1440. Some acorns still in granary, but couldn't be more than 50 or so. \u2640 #86 seen, That's all. end 1530.
