1978 Ronald L. Murme 6 Journal St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., Florida 16 Dec Clear, warm weather, light winds. I went on the St. Pete Christmas Bird Count with Glen Woolfenden, Henry Robertson, Wayne Hoffman, Tom Bancroft and Jim Rodgers, covering the Toytown Dump area, Sawgrass Lake, Bay Pines, and John's Pass. Best bird was an Eared Grebe Glen and Wayne had staked out, plus Smooth-billed Ani, Great Black-backed Gull, 1 Cooper's Hawk, about 7 Sharpies, Marsh Hawk, 2 Sharp-tailed Sparrows, Sora, King Rail. We did poorly at Sawgrass Lake, and entire count missed Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Hermit Thrush, and Ovenbird. 18 Dec Staying with folks in Plant City, Florida, visited USF and the museum, checking out Melanerpes skins at Woodpecker Clutches. No picid eggs, but did look at 26 specimens, none showing strange plumages. 20 Dec Left Plant City to visit the Florida State Museum, where I saw Bruce & Carmen Barbour. I worked through the Picid egg collection, and briefly looked at Melanerpes study skins. Had a pleasant stay with Bruce and Carmen [illegible] for the night, and returned to Plant City around noon on the 21st. 23 Dec North Pinellas Co., Florida - Partly cloudy, warm. On the N. Pinellas CBC with Glen Woolfenden, Wayne Hoffman, and Stu Santos, covering the Courtney Campbell Causeway, Clearwater Christian College, Alligator Lake, and Phillippe Park area. Best Birds were Am. Redstart, N. Parula, Am. Bittern, Cedar Warwing, Reddish Egret, Long-billed Marsh Wren;
