1978 Ronald L. Mumme Journal (Bolinas Lagoon, Mt. Tamalpais Area, Marin Co., California) (4 Nov) Thrush (1, Redwoods), Golden-crowned Kinglet (10, one flock in Redwoods on Bolinas Ridge), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (25, mostly deciduous trees r Oak Scrub), Loggerhead Shrike (1, on wire over coastal strand hills, S. Marin), Yellow-rumped Warbler (1, alders nr. Stinson Beach), White-crowned Sparrow (many), Fox Sparrow (5, in chaparral), Song Sparrow (3). 22 Nov I left Berkeley at about 1330 [illegible] (in the rain) to spend a nice long Thanksgiving weekend at Hastings. 23 Nov Spent the morning reading Bio 1A projects, and kept Whitney (or perhaps Winnie) company up at Red House. In the afternoon I watched some at Westgate, then walked up the road all the way to Rd. 3, not seeing much. Did see a large reddish salamander crossing the road on this cool clear day, plus several others that didn't make it across the road. Townsend's Warbler seen with Bushtit flock. In the evening I finished off the Bio 1A projects. 24 Nov I walked up to the Arnold today, and although it was a lot of fun, it was a miserable failure bird-wise. Only wickerbills I saw up there were at Black Oak and Arnold 3. Not a peep out of Arnold 1, Bianca, Low Arnold 2. I did see Varied Thrush (new bird) plus Bobcat tracks on the road. I did see an unbanded ♀ at Westgate enroute back to Hastings(see notes). 25 Nov Watched at Haystack-Blomquist and 1500 This afternoon. Large group of Western Bluebirds both places. Finally finished B.S. for NSF application.
