1978 Ronald L. Mumme 3 Journal Hastings Reservation Monterey Co. (13 Oct) (chongo notes), but I did manage to struggle through most of the Bio 1A proposals. A nice group of people from Davis came in around 2:00, and they fed me some of their excellent feish. 14 Oct Watched at Lower Haystack in the morning and Arnold ! in the afternoon (see group notes) seeing / Phainopepla, \sigma\, Golden-crowned Sparrows (4), "Red-breasted" Sapsucker, "Audubon's" Warbler, Scott called Jim Griffin, having car trouble and left word that he wouldn't be leaving UCLA for Hastings. 15 Oct Had a pretty fun watch up at Arnold 3 in the morning before returning to Berkeley at about 1830. 4 Nov Bolinas Lagoon, Mt. Tamalpais, Marin Co., California Birding around Marin Co., saw my first White-winged Scoter (S. of Stinson Beach and Bolinas Lagoon) and 4 Black Oystercatchers at Agate Beach. Additional birds were Western Grebe (many at Stinson Beach, a few in B.L.), Horned Grebe (10, B.L.), Double-crested Cormorant (50, B.L.), Mallard (5, B.L.), Pintail (very abundant in B.L., many thousand), American Wigeon (several hundred), N. Shoveler (a few), Bufflehead (20, B.L.), Surf Scoter (200 or 50), Red-breasted Merganser (19, B.L.), Ruddy Duck (100 or so, B.L.), Turkey Vulture, Snowy Egret, Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Am. coot (20), Avocet (10, B.L.) Marbled Godwit (2, B.L.), Gull spp., Acorn Woodpecker (sp. notes) Corv. Raven (4, B.L. + Bolinas Ridge), Wrentit (Abundant in chaparral), Bewicks Wren (2, coast strand r chaparral), Hermit
