Laj Chiral, Alta Nopag Guatemala (cont.)
May 25
... Jerome Fuchs and Rodolfo Duran arrived from Guatemala City. We packed + drove to Laj Chiral, N of Uspantan arriving around 17:00 after a 50 min drive. When we arrived, we realized that Ana Duran's pack was missing; a group drove back to Uspantan that failed to find it.
Carlos Ricardo and I went out this morning to the forest between Laj Chiral + San Pablo el Baldio. We put in 2 pitfall arrays (9 traps total) in the forest with the mammal people and then searched in the roadbank. From 11:35-12:15, we got 3 Andis and a B. linchi in the bank, and I found 2 Trupanea fischeri under logs in the sun. From 12:45-13:30, we got a Rhadine under a log, 2 Andis, and 4 Dascus in the roadbank. We took photos + propped after lunch, I then helped the bird people set up nets; it had been cloudy all day and fairly warm.
After dinner, we went back to the area w/ the pitfall arrays + searched from 20:55-22:50 in the forest. It was misty + cloudy and a few drops of rain fell, but it was fairly dry in the forest although some of the moss was wet. I got a tiny Bolitoglossa euchilostoma on a leaf ~3m above the ground and a B. hartwegi on a leaf just above the ground. After leaving the forest, we searched on the same roadbank as earlier in the day, which was slightly wetter than in the forest. I got an Andis + Carlos got 2 more Ricardo's + I dug a big B. linchi out of a burrow in a clay bank. We looked from 22:55-23:40 before heading back to sleep.
