Pinto, Sean 2011 Journal Bethel, 19.0 Km NE (by rd) of Colen, Montanas # Decensin, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala (cont.) May 18 Carlos found another B. helmruchi under a board. I've caught 3 Andis (Colenensis?) and saw many more. I climbed down into a giant cave-like crack ~10m deep with deep moist leaf litter at the bottom and got a Grangator and an Andis we walked to the end of the trail and a bit beyond before turning back for lunch. In total, we searched from 08:25-11:50. After lunch, the bird people were totally swamped (32 birds), and each had to teach the students how to prep so Ted began labeling vials and worked at this until midnight! The three of us (Carlos, Ricardo + I) prepped specimens until ~16:30, when I began prepping birds. I have little experience, so it took me until almost 2AM to do 4 birds. At night, Carlos + Ricardo went out and found 2 Dendroica gyanosticta in a water tank next to some houses. I've searched along the path we took in the morning and collected up to our permit limit of B. helmruchi and Andis (6+4, respectively) from 20:25-22:30. It was rather hot during the day and sunny, but got cloudy in the afternoon and seemed as though it would rain, which it never did. May 19 Pasulha area, Baja Verapaz, Guatemala Spent morning prepping; also helped with birds. Carlos decided we needed to leave tonight to get back in time for his graduation, so we drove to the Bishop del Avotzel + stayed at Hotel Montanas del Avotzel. Searched along a stream 0.9Km N of hotel on CA-14 from 21:45-22:45. Got 3 Hana (along stream), 2 Andis (in vegetation) and 2 Ptychodys (one I got was way away from stream). Appears it hasn't rained here - dry and cool.
