Montanas de Cielos, Depts. Huehuetenango, Guatemala
Oct. 24 We had planned to spend two days in the Montanas de Cielos, but decided to visit both sites in one day. Drove out of El Rapis, near la Democracia, up to da Cumbre, the type locality of Aendrotistrun ralisia. It was foggy and raining lightly to moderately. We searched for approximately 1.5 hr. I got a B. radii in a big bromeliad, opened ~ 10 more but found nothing else (they had lots of water in them). Daby + Carlos got 2 B. lineae under small piles of wood. We drove down to Cielos, where we got a room + took meridian photos. Drove up to San Francisco El Retiro in the rain, arriving around 20:00; paid Q 250 for a permit to enter site. Drove up to same sinkholes we had visited in June. Act stock several times in myd; eventually made it up w/ching. I got 3 B. rex in one sinkhole (saw 1 more) and Carlos got 4 in the sinkhole on an accessible cave at the bottom where we saw lots of salamanders in June. Collected only 2 but swabbed all of them. Drove down to Cielos and spent the night at Hotel Perla!
Cerro Mojotal, Chiapas, Mexico
Oct. 26 Yesterday, we drove from Cielos to la Mesilla + crossed the Mexican border. Went to Comitun, tried + failed to find liquid nitrogen, and ate in the plaza. Drove to Mojtatal in a heavy rain + spent the night. This morning, got up late (forgot about time change due to Daylight savings time), dried stuff out, + drove up Cerro Mojotal, arriving around 13:00. Weather was mostly w/ light rain when
