Parts, Dean 2013 Journal June 8 Corra Goy, Martin, Dierde de las Cuchumatacan, Depto. Hualhuamango, Australia (est) Tried to walk up to the forest but felt too sick + went back to La Guadalupe w/ Rodolfo, where she was treated for amoebas at the clinic. The rest of us (and the mules), plus two men from the village, did a fairly easy 1 hr walk up to the edge of the forest at 1750m. About halfway up, started to see [illegible] tree ferns, + other cloud forest plants. Arrived at the forest edge + had to clear thick brush for camp, since only cleared areas were corn fields. It had been cloudy in the morning and started to rain around 16:00, so we waited until night to search. We all started searching in the forest at 20:30. Lots of really big broadleaf trees, tree ferns, big bromeliads, and a fairly thick understory - really nice cloud forest, appears largely undisturbed. Carlos + I each found a Graugaster almost immediately. He [illegible] and Jacobo went back at 21:30 and I continued uphill. Found a Heliotropis on vegetation, 3 Bolitoglossa euchunataca (1 on ground, 2 on veg), and a male Andis w/ a purple bowler. Heard a hybrid w/ a different call but couldn't find it. Followed rain that up to 19:00m elev, turned back at 00:05. Walked back slowly, arriving in camp at 04:00, by which time rain had stopped. It was cool, maybe around 20°C; a perfect night for amphibians. June 9 Went up to forest this morning w/ Carlos and searched 10:15 - 13:30. I walked up to 2100m on one trail and saw only a big Graugaster. Carlos got a Dryophilus out foraging just above camp and 05 B. cuchumatana in bromeliads around 1900-1950 meter. Carlos went up to 2200m on another trail and saw a quetzal + 2...
