Hunter, Dean 2012 Journal Nolcan Moyuta, Dept. Jutejap; Acatemala (cont.) Dec. 15 ... summit, where there is a narrow band of what looks like original forest. There were fairly big broadleaf trees, abundant ferns and other small plants and shrubs, no good hiding places for salamanders, but there were some with thin, tough leaves. Hiked back down and drove to Nolean Chingo. At base of volcano, spoke with Paty Kiss, who is in charge of permission. She told us that the entire volcano is private land! We were welcome to go up, but it would take 2.5-3 hr. It was already almost 16:00, so we decided to leave and try to see if we could access the Acatemalan part of El Frijines from the Salvadorian side, which has road access. Crossed into El Salvador and spent night in Metapan. Flood pupusas, nice parque central, severe lack of affordable hotels.
