Knitr, Sean 2012 Journal Corrado Castillo, Ngrj, Hndagos, Famuljes, Mexico (cnt.) Oct. 11 ... a stable mr/ gave horses, went uphill and got to a steep curve the truck couldn't make it up. Tried to turn around at a wide point but truck almost slid off edge; couldn't move backward or forward. After some trying, left everything and walked uphill ~2.5km to Corrado Castillo, a beautiful village of ~6 houses in the pine forest. A man went by bike to look at the truck while we searched for salamanders. We looked for a total of ~1hr between 15:00 and 17:00. Found a small P. galanae inside a log and a huge one under a log, plus a Plethodon. Went into the mouth of a number of caves but had no light so couldn't search or go far. There seem to be caves everywhere, and the man who went to look at the truck said he has seen P. galanae in caves when we showed him one. He came back around 17:15 and said we could only get the truck untruck w/ another truck, but they didn't have one and we had blocked the road. Some forestry engineers had gone to Ranchos Nuevo (~3 km S of Corrado Castillo), and people said they would help us tomorrow at 5 pm when they returned. The situation was complicated by the fact that both rear tires were bald when we got them and were now close to suffering a blowout. We walked an hour back to the truck, and finally extricated it by digging out the back wheels and driving over the blowouts for traction. Dropped to a spot where we could turn around, camped, or make dinner. Started uphill at 20:45; arrived in Corrado Castillo at 21:45. Went to the Cueva del Brinco, c.a. 100m from town on the road downhill. The opening is enormous, and gives way to a cavernous chamber that stretched back
