Kris, Sean 2012 Journal Oct. 6 Nalle de los Fantasmas, Sierra de Alvarez, San Luis Potosi, Mexico Arrived in DF very early Friday morning; spent day dealing w/ export of birds from the June Chepas trip. Left at 09:30 w/ Rafael and Mariana and drove to Nalle de los Fantasmas, SLP, arriving around 16:30 (time of traffic leaving DF). We walked to Cueva el MadroƱo, where I had found Chiropterotriton multidentatus on my last trip here in 2010. We searched in the cave but found nothing; I went quite a bit deeper than last time. Searched around the entrance to the cave + nearly in leaf litter; got 2 C. multidentatus and 2 Elephis, plus another Elephus near the car. The leaf litter was fairly wet + conditions seemed decent for salamanders, but found no P. cephalica, which was the primary goal. We also looked under rocks but those were drier than deep leaf litter. Drove to Ciudad del Maiz, to spend the night, arriving around 22:30. Ciudad del Maiz, S.L.P., Cueva El Pacho and Acahualtes, San Luis Potosi, Mexico Oct. 7 Woke up at 07:00 + left Ciudad del Maiz around 08:30. Drove ~5Km E on Hwy 80 to an oak forest; parked at a small chapel + searched for ~15 min, but it was quite dry. This should be near the Pseudemys locality here, and was the first place to stop w/ decent oak forest. No bromelids and few frogs, so hard to search. Continued E to the road up to the microwave towers where we stopped in 2010. Searched from ~ 09:15 - 11:00, mostly in Bromelads but also in logs.
