Coro Moyal, Npr. Metzintla, Chiapas, Mexico (cont.)
June 19 ... the entire time we searched, and it was misty and rather cold (maybe 7°C).
We took photos and prepped specimens in the afternoon while it continued to
rain. At 20:30, took the truck down to the highway to search in
the area where I'd found salamanders in 2006, but I couldn't find
it in the mist. Looked a little on the highway, then along 2 side roads
on the way back to camp, including the one where we found the toads
last night. Truck couldn't climb the final stretch up to the camp, so
we parked and walked. I found a Bolitoglossa f. nigraflavescens on
the way up, ~200m from our camp. Got back at 11:00, having searched
for ~1hr total. The night was cold w/ intermittent rain.
June 20 Woke up this morning to a cold rain - took everyone a while to get going; Zach
was wet + tired after a night in his hammock + suggested we leave; I think
everyone is of the same opinion. Jorge, Diana, + I searched from 11:00-12:40 in
this area where I found the Pseudoeurycea yesterday; Jorge + Cleah got one
and Diana found a tail but not the animal. The one I got was darker w/
no gular spots and looks like P. goebeli to me, while the other looks more
like P. dia. We searched along the road and I got 2 Mesaspsis angulatai
under a board + a piece of muilt in a small field. Prepped specimens, then
packed up and drove to Metzintla. Arrived late; weather had cleared
up just as we were leaving.
