June 14 ... We made it back to Finca Magnolia Miramar around 12:40 + ate lunch. Wanted to go to Finca Narillos, where the bird + mammal teams were, but had to wait until 14:00 for a guide (Juan Carlos), who had worked with the smithlogists all morning, to take us. We arrived at the edge of the forest at 14:50 and started opening bromeliads. As on our other hike uphill, lower forest was quite disturbed, but got better as we went up. Found 05 B. engleri in bromeliads on the way up, as well as an Andryta Gaugeta lineatus. After cutting a trail through a very steep uphill slope, we arrived near the high point of our other hike on the same trail as before, and continued uphill. Forest here has very big trees + lots of bromeliads higher up, but only small + medium ones reachable. We made it to 2150m elev. before it was too dark to see; got 2 more B. engleri as well as B. C. rupinus. Opened a total of 57 bromeliads on the hike. Started down at 18:10; Carlos found a C. lineatus and, while we stopped to take a gps point, saw a C. stuarti coming out of a crack or hole in a log. We made it down by 19:30 and headed back to prep specimens. Day had been not too warm and foggy in the afternoon; that cleared up just before dark. Forest floor seemed wetter than before, but still very dry. Jan. 17 South slope of Volcan Atitlan, Depts. Suchitepequez - Solola, Guatemala We packed up on Jan 15 and left Finca Magnolia Miramar.
