Rivito, Sean 2012 Journal Finca Magadis Miramar, Volcan Ascencion, Depto, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala (cont.) Jan. 11 ... more salamanders. Around 1900m, just above where we found the first D. egelhardti, we started to see bamboo, and by 2000m it was the dominant plant in many parts of the forest. The upper part of the forest was more disturbed, but the last area where we worked had tons of bromeliads and looked more like the cloud forest that I'm used to. We walked down, and it became very foggy just on the way down. Rained during dinner, so Carlos & I drove down road from 20:00 - 21:00 looking for good roadbanks to search for salamanders, but didn't find any; all land along road is copetol + all roadbanks are dirt rather than rock. Jan. 12 Genova Costa Cuca and Finca Magadis Miramar, Depto, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala Spent morning taking photos + prepping specimens while we waited for someone to bring back a truck. Left around 11:00 in search of red bananas. Drove down to highway & saw hardly any; continued to CA-2 and took turnoff to Genova Costa Cuca, drove out of town to an area called Lalob Santigo, 0.5km from center of Genova; stopped at a large patch of land w/ coffee, fruit trees and some banana plants and spent ~45min - 1hr searching in bananas (primarily red banana plants but also some green ones. Area looked good for hoppers- lots of shade trees + quite a lot of leaf litter. Ied quickly got a Bolitoglossa salvini in a red banana, the first cl'ive seen. Looks almost exactly like B. flaviventris to me except w/o yellow ventor. Carlos got atting and we got a huge purplish clown + 12 crests, and I got a Dendras tanferi in a green banana plant (with Carlos & I saw + left I more
