Pronto, Dean 2012 Journal Nevado de Colima, Jalisco, Mexico June 5 Arrived in Mexico, DF at 06:30 on 6/14 and spent the day at UNAM getting things ready. Left with Jorge Sanchez, Mirna [illegible], Meriana and Rafael for Nevado de Colima. Spent night in Hotel Acuario (cheap, nice) in Ocotlan and drove to Ciudad Ayguen this morning. Bought food + drove to same site ('Cerro de los Puerces') where we camped in November. Started searching at 15:30, but the site is over drier than last time - seems like no rain for a while. We looked in some damp leaf litter below roadbanks and Meriana found an Eleutherodactylus minestlingas . I got a Plestodon (saw several more) and a small ctulrid, and Mirna got a Hecshis. I hiked down into the canyon where we focused our efforts last fall, but it was very dry. I don't think we'll find anything if it doesn't rain, which it is supposed to tomorrow night. Cerro Pinguica, Pinol de Amoles, Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra Narda, Queretaro, Mexico June 7 Yesterday, we went to Ciudad Ayguen and looked at the weather forecast. It said it would rain later in the week when last I checked, but now said no rain all week. We decided to leave since there was no hope of finding salamanders, but first we went to look for more [illegible] sites for future visits. We took to road from Ciudad Ayguen to El Mullet and arrived in a relatively high area of pine forest that looked much like where we had searched before, except that the forest is in much better condition than at Cerro de los Puerces. We took a small road that evidently goes up the
