Kanto, Dean 2011 Journal Novado de Cima, Jalisco, Mexico Oct. 26 We drove to Ciudad Auyman to get gas, then took the road to El Brullas and then the road that goes up the Paredo to the refugio. Stopped to search from 11:30-11:50 at a point 5.4 km from the highway (19.61958°N, 103.56858°W [±10m], 2341m elev). The habitat, oak forest, was in bad shape but we got a shrew in leaf litter at the base of the roadbank. Continued to a point 6.3 km from the highway (19.61384°N, 103.56789°W [±9m], 2435m elev) where there is a small spring in a canyon with mixed pine-oak forest. Searched in deep leaf litter + logs from 12:00-13:05 but found nothing. Finally, went to a point 7.8 km from the highway (19.60876°N, 103.57089°W [±8m], 2616m elev) and searched from 13:45-14:45. Habitat was pine forest with some oak + a few Alnus scattered about, with tons of really good logs; saw nothing. Started downhill to go to a new locality called Lorento when the window of the truck, which already didn't work, slipped into a position where it couldn't be closed and looked like it might break. We had to go back to Ciudad Auyman to get it fixed before the mechanics closed, and ended up spending the night there.
