Rinto, Sean 2011 Journal (cont.) Ejica Firanga, Reserva Biológica de Anfíbios Andina. Carol, Rhptrichyela. Aureolus. ... is very camouflaged when threatened. I also saw a relatively big Marimusa in a tree on the way up. Carlos walked up to the top then waited for us due to a misunderstanding of the plan. Ricardo, Oldulius, & I searched from ~900m clear up and opened all the branches we could find, hoping for another clithryella. We think the one we got could be a new species, since the only one nearby (cl. molandecu) from Cusco is dirty white dorsally while ours is bright yellow. VSA C is keeping the one from yesterday and I would be uncomfortable leaving the holotype there. I got a tiny Sphaerodactylus either in a branch or I disturbed it when I shook a branch on the ground. We searched at the top until ~00:45 w/o finding anything except C. laterisps and C. chac. Could hear hylids as a single note call high up in trees - either Brachyhylla or perhaps the clithryella. Ricardo says he heard a dink-dink call yesterday, turned around, and saw the frog peeking out of a tiny branch on our level on a log, but isn't sure if he heard a single 2-syllable call or two separate frogs making 1-syllable calls. In any case, we saw no more frogs. It hadn't rained today and the forest was pretty dry; no moisture or leaves at all, and very windy. Around 01:00, rain threatened, and we decided to wait for it. Started around 01:10, and we waited until 01:40 for the forest to get wet. In the meantime, I saw 2 Potos flying high in the trees and got a B. nymphe on a leaf. We then searched until 02:20; Carlos & Ricardo found a B. deffensi on a leaf. Walked down a very slippery trail, arrived back at 03:30. Would have searched more but Carlos & I need to drive back to Arequipa tomorrow. Heard howler monkeys on the way down. Lots of mammals and good herps here - glad to see it's being protected.
