Honto, Dear 2011 Journal Aug. 15 Finca Firmeza, Sierra Cardel, Mpio. Morales, Depto Chiquihua, Guatemala On the 13th, we dropped specimens in the morning, packed up, and went to Rio Dulce for the night. Mauricio, Ella, Stephanie, and Jorge Erwin left in the morning and the rest of us drove to Morales. On the night, Sergio, Maria Fernanda, Beija, Ricardo and Rodolfo joined us from Guatemala City. Today we drove from Morales to the new FUNDAECO reserve. I set up in the afternoon, then set out to collect & find a break in the water line to the house. Carlos, Ricardo, Ted & I walked along the hike looking for a break & got an A. bipunctata on a tree as well as a Diphtherophis. Forest here is in good condition; big trees w/ Anthrososiphus, and fairly thick under-story that seems taller than at Cerro San Luis. After attempting to repair water system, we went back for dinner and went back to a stream ~1km from the field station. We searched along the stream for about an hour (~21:00-22:00). I saw a Gramaster nephreus that escaped; Carlos got another species of Gramaster. Oldulis got a Branchedyla brandeisii, and I found a Blethrihylla matudai metamorph. Between the four of us we collected 7 Dwellmanshylla stralia which were calling from veg along the stream, and saw several more. The night was totally dry with a full moon; seems like it hasn't rained here for at least a few days. Ted didn't go to search with us tonight; seemed tired. Aug. 16 Spent morning dropping specimens, then waited for rain; 2 storms passed into any rain. At 16:40, started walking uphill w/ Carlos, Ricardo and Oldulis while Ted walked very slowly uphill. We searched in a couple of good logs on the way up but found nothing. Arrived at high point of trail (and reserve, I believe) at ~1000m elev. The forest above
