Karlos Dean 2011 Journal Aug. 9 Estacion Biologica Chandler Robbins, Carro San Gil, Porto Chalo, Guatemala Spent morning preparing specimens. At 14:00 walked uphill to where trail crosses a large creek and big pools + small cascade; ~600m N of field station. On the way, got a Graugaster chae + 2 Andis. Looked along stream - found an Andis and a big Micrurus diastema partially exposed under some leaves, which Karlos helped me collect. Carlos got a big Ophrys elongata inside the end of a log along the path near the stream. This area is more humid than areas around the field station. We opened logs and raked through leaf litter until 16:00 but got only 1 more Andis. Karlos brought us a Aphonopelma from this area as well. After dinner, we searched along a small stream that flows into the Rio Carboneras from 19:15 - 21:15. It was dry all day so activity was somewhat low, but I got 6 C. sandersoni; 1 Bifidus campbelli + a Lapidophrys fleminaculum under a piece of wood. Ted got 2 C. sandersoni and Carlos got 4 more, plus a Hylodryas amilicea laurentini, and a false coral snake. All the Graugaster sandersoni were immediately along the stream. Walking out, we saw 2 Bifidus marinus (collected 1) in the Rio Carboneras. Gabriela walked back uphill to the large stream instead of coming w/ us. On the way, she got a juvenile Chlorotodes concha, and Jim Patton got a big Graugaster laticeps from near the mist nets in the same area. Karlos found a Hypocalotes ripiculus in the rafters above his tent in the building where we're sleeping, which Carlos caught.
