El Haidro, Reserva Atlantà - El Haidr, Depto Jinotega, Nicaragua
Yesterday, took pango from Kibera Hill to Bluefields. Waited
5 hours at dock to get pango to El Rama, then drove to
Matagalpa. This morning, drove to a place called El Haidro
in Reserva Atlantà - El Hidro, where there is a cabin to stay in.
Arrived late in heavy rain, Fed insisted he wouldn't sleep there.
Area has lots of coffee and bananas around the houses, with very
nice cloud forest. Lots big broadleaf trees, tree ferns, and thick understory
with many figras. Searched under brush piles around cleared areas
+ coffee, near where Javier found a single Odontira before, from about
15:45 - 16:00. Then split up - Javier stayed there, while 3 of us walked
up into forest. Searched under logs + in leaf litter with stakes until
18:00. I went up to 1500m into nice forest, got lost + didn't get back
until 18:30. We got 2 Andis quzequulus in forest. Around pond at
buildings, found A. callidryas, Perna (irrespective), Perodophus elburcautus,
Bato exciter, and Emiliser baudinii. It rained for first half hour
of searching, then was cloudy. Drove up to Universidad Centroamericana
(UCA) field station - very nice, saw an Agalychnis along the way. Walked
down to a nearby stream, found 2 Bostrichia schlegelii along road in
yucca plants and Perna iridellae along road. Searched along a nice stream
in forest for 20:00-22:00; found a Phasgurus liastoma (heard many),
Andis capito, A. lemnifera, A. quzequulus, and heard Hyliolatriochina
Meighmani. Then walked along path in forest from ~ 22:00-22:45, and
found a huge Chamtobla senchosa, plus a Pirstinantes riders and
A. capito. Walked back to UCA station. Also got A. baudinii +
Lepidodactylus melanostictus along road.
