into, dear 2009 Journal Aug. 22 Finca Mogdalena, Isle de Ometepe, Depto. Rivas, Nicaragua Arrived in Managua on Aug. 20 w/ Fed Papefusss. Drove to Leon and gave talks the next day at UAN-Leon. Met Javier Junyer and his friend Jenia Olavarr. Drove to San Jorge, Depto. Rivas. Stopped at El Quetz for ~40 min to look for Dermophis in cafetales but found nothing. Woke up and took ferry to Isla de Ometepe, then drove to Finca Mogdalena at base of Volcan Maderas. At 5:30PM, drove to Humedal Istiban near Playa Santo Domingo and began searching in a wetland with lots of grass at 18:30. Found a [illegible] Kinosterna scorpioides in shallow, muddy water near shore; also saw juvenile Caiman crocodilus; caught 2 Rana virillanti and saw many more; and got 2 Leptodactylus melanotus. Put in 1 turtle trap to get more Kinosterna. Habitat included dry forest trees and Araceae growing like mangroves in more stagnant, forested areas of wetland. Searched for 19 min in shallow water with tall vegetation for many calling Hylodactylus microcephalus; Jenin caught one. Walked back towards starting point; I caught 2 more Kinosterna scorpioides in shallow, muddy water or way back. Also got a Irotanthiurus nigrolineatus on edge of stagnant water in forested area with many fish. Saw a large female Basiliscus vittatus sleeping on a branch, but it escaped into water. Javier thought he saw a Phylodactylus tuberculosis. Found a small Leptodactylus fragilis where we put in turtle trap, which had only fish in it. Stopped to catch 11 Engystoma pustulosus in a small temporary pond along road near Finca Mogdalena. Day was warm, cloudy with thunder but no rain in afternoon. Evening cool and clear. Stopped searching in humedal at 20:00 before driving back to the Fincas.
