Cerro Jorobado, E of Puerto del Halls, Guerrero, Mexico (cont.)
Sept. 26 ... to climb up toward Cerro Jorobado, the forest transitioned to a very wet pine-oak forest with tons of moss and lots of fast-flowing clear streams. We stopped for ~10 min to search under logs but found nothing.
On the crest of the road S of Cerro Jorobado, the pine trees became sparse, with lots of exposed mossy rock, tons of fast streams and seeps, and high elevation shrubby vegetation. Drove down to Puerto del Halls, arriving around 18:00. Had left around 12:15, so trip took about 5hr, not including stops. Stopped at police station. After dinner, drove back to high point on road S of Cerro Jorobado. Searched from 21:40-22:30; found nothing. Had rained lightly on high part of mountain during afternoon w/ lots of fog, so everything was wet, but cleared up by the time we arrived. Most of the mossy rock slopes along road were dripping wet + looked very good for salamanders, but we saw nothing. Searched along road bank a bit W of this point for ~10 min, then drove down to a point where a road branched off uphill, 8.4km E (by rd) from Puerto del Halls. Searched from 23:00-23:30; Tom + Cityse looked along a stream, while I searched along the roadbank. I found a dark brown-black juvenile Pseuduryces on the mossy roadbank, ~1.5m off the ground (road). It had a lot of brown spots on the dorsum and no markings on the ventr, which matches the description of P. chiutztl.
Searched for a good stream <28cm clear for Plethodontids, but found none, and returned to Puerto del Halls to spend the night)
