El Astadero, Carrizal de Bravo, Guerrero, Mexico (cont.)
... around 13:00 focusing on logs. Conditions were very good for salamanders (lots of rain lately), and Tom + Ettye both found a Thorius militaris (1 in log + 1 under rock). Barisia + Sceloporus were abundant. After lunch + talking to someone from the committee in charge of the site (from Carrizal de Bravo), we searched from 15:00-17:00. Tom + I each got a Thorius in logs, and Tom + Ettye found a small Graecastes (I also saw one but it escaped). Took photos in afternoon waited for some man from Carrizal de Bravo, who came to show us a cave w/ a very steep entrance and a river flowing through it. After dinner (around 20:45), we walked out to the road and looked at the roadside for ~30 min; Tom found a Plethodon distinctus in a hole w/ dripping water. Went back to cave and searched for ~30 min w/ no luck. Then went to another cave I found this afternoon, on the old road/path downhill to E from cabins. Cave turned out to be pretty big + had a stream flowing through it - saw no herps inside. Returned to cabins around 22:50; Tom stopped searching. Ettye + I walked uphill along the road from the cabins and searched along the road bank until about 23:20, with no success. Slept in ad of the cabins. Day was fairly warm in the morning, cloudy w/ no rain in the afternoon, and clear at night.
