Karla, 2010 Journal La Festalga, Oaxaca, Mexico Aug. 9 Yesterday, I left OF w/ Tom + Susan, Gabriela, Luis Caceres and Ted Papenfuss. Drive to Matias Romero to spend the night. Went out driving along road to Jalisco Guy + got 5 Engystomops pustulosus, 1 Dendropsophus microcephalus, 1 Laeates platyrhin, 1 Electrophryne rota + 1 Phasmophis proxima in a roadside ditch 4Km S of town; also heard Bufo. Today, drove out on road towards Poblado Catorce (Rio Upanaga), Noreday, along northern edge of the Chimalapas. Turned S at Poblado Ace to La Festalga, just across border in Oaxaca. Were allowed to set up in municipal building. Went out with guide to a cave next to town w/ lots + nice rock formations; found nothing inside. Walked on through a mix of disturbed forest + pasture with a lot of limestone; this got a Dendropsophus pustulace under a log. Got a Craugastor rhodopis in leaf litter, an Oligos trujillensis on a rock (saw another) and a Corythophenes hernandezi on a lina. Searched for 2-3hrs in the afternoon; then went back out along same trail at 21:30. I got an Eleutherodactylus lupris, a C. rhodopis, and a Ctenyge elegans among plants next to the trail; others found a C. rhodops + 1 almatana cancha. Started to rain incredibly hard; Ted turned back at 22:00, Tom + Susan at 22:30. We got a Amolies crasini (heard many) in a grassy clearing, plus a Dendropsophus microcephalus. At entrance to good forest, got a big Clelia cyalina and a C. rhodopis, then another Amilica and -1 big Craugastor berkenbuschi. Forest further on is in good shape - big trees +/huge buttresses + a nice, clear stream. At house, got another Amilica and a Bufo marinus. Rain stopped around 23:30; stopped searching at 00:00.
