July 6
Cordoba area, Veracruz, Mexico
cl left DF around 5:30AM and drove to Fortin de las Flores.
Stopped at some house in Fortin Niego where cl searched before and
looked under logs and rocks for about an hour (~09:00-10:00).
Found 2 colubrid snakes (Hoplia semidolatus), 1 under a rock and 1 under
a palm frond; didn't search for B. rufescens in bananas. Drove
E out of Cordoba to Potrero Niego and asked around for Hacienda
El Fierro; no one knew it, but there are lots of old, ruined
buildings in the area. cl drove N from Paraje Nuevo to the macimiento
del Rio Atayac, down a side road from the main Paraje-La Chica
road that ends [illegible] at the maciminto. This area has tons of
limestone and some parts have good forest. cl searched from 14:45-
16:00 but found only Baeo galliceps (saw 3, kept 1). cl then
walked up a trail through the forest to a steep hillside
with lots of limestone outcrops and searched in cracks with a
flashlight from 17:00-19:30 in a moderately heavy rain.
Saw only 2 more B. galliceps and 1 B. marinus. Seems like
some salamander should live in all this limestone. Wanted to
search at night but was exhausted; got a room in Fortin.

all day waiting for to be fixed, and the power steering no
longer worked once the mechanic replaced the part; had to spend
another night in Fortin. During the wait, cl searched under palm
fronds and stones in a wooded lot across from Hotel Fortin de
