Chitlac and Chanctin, Mpio. Barrillas, Depto. Huehuetenango, Guatemala.
Jan. 22 We spent some time in the morning sharpening machetes, talking to people in the muni and sending off lists for the export permit; took road out to Chitlac and [illegible] continued on road to a small town called Siglo Niente Ermin, on the road to Flor de Cafe, Chupas. We spent about 40 min searching in bananas (mostly green). I got a B. rufescens in a green banana and Ted got an Imantodes conchoa in a red banana. Continued back toward Chitlac and stopped in San Carlos Chanctin where we searched in green bananas for 45-60 min without success. Went on to Las Victorias, Chanctin and searched in bananas (mostly red) for 30-45 min; got 2 B. rufescens and 1 Andis. Finally, turned off to Palomas de Chitlac and searched in bananas (red + green) from around 16:45-18:00; got 3 B. rufescens (red bananas) and a Phryniscus selenae. The day was clear and quite warm.
San Jose Marcel, Depto. Huehuetenango, Guatemala

After we got all the cans in, our guide (2) took us to a spot where huge trees had been felled and cut into boards, with some boards left laying on sawdust, many with peeling bark. This was ideal for salamanders, and quite similar to the site where we found Bradytriton last year at Finca Chicazon; We searched for 30-45 min and got 6
