Cuautlapan and Fortin de las Flores, Nayarit, Mexico
Dec. 29
Started the day by searching in a vacant lot with a lot of
bricks and some banana trees. In about 30 min of searching, I
found a tiny juvenile B. platydoctyla under a brick. Went back to
the cafetal above Cuautlapan to the W and searched under stones,
logs + leaf litter for ~45 min but found nothing. Moved on to Fortin
and searched in vacant lots and along streets near the railroad
for ~45 min; found 2 tiny gelae under a rock. Walked W into
"Reserva Metal", an area along an old railway that leads to
the cuota highway bridge into town. Searched under stones and
in trash behind houses for ~45 min but found nothing. Went
back to Cuautlapan and searched in several people's yards.
Found a B. rufescens under a wooden crate. Drove to Orijata
to search in [illegible] city parks (Dave Wake's suggestion for
B. platydoctyla) but couldn't find one with cover objects. Gave
up and drove back to DF. The day was cloudy but
not rainy, and fairly warm.
