La Joya Chico, 5W of La Joya Norecruz, Mexico
Woke up somewhat late - still tired I guess (or lazy). Searched in
8-10 bromeliads behind hotel in Plasencas but found nothing. Went
looking for small fragment of oak forest with lots of epiphytes. Drove
to La Joya and turned off to La Joya Chico, just south of
town. Drove through town and took paved road uphill to E that
ended at some houses and a pink church. Walked past church then
turned left onto a dirt road (impossible to cars, I think). Started
searching in ca 10m wide remnant strip of oak forest along road in
both bromeliads + under logs, beginning at 12:35. Quickly found a
Pseudobrysonia (cephalica?) under a small branch on the ground. A
little further up in an area of mixed pine-oak forest (larger patch,
extending W from road), found another P. cephalica (?) under a small
clump scrap of wood. Opened one small bromeliad from a very small
oak tree (almost a shrub) and got a Pseudobrysonia lynchi. Beautiful
golden-green dorsal color, and much more rapid movement than most
other pleads I've seen. Continued up path into a larger forest
remnant bordered by cow pasture on 2 sides + dirt road on other side.
Found 2 P. lynchi coiled up together in a small crack on top of a
1m high pine stump, covered in pine needles. This area has very thick
pine needle litter and a broadleaf tree understory w/ a fair amount of
herbaceous plants. Found a Phrixes and a P. lynchi in a small
decomposing log covered with thick pine needle litter. Searched in
pine needles around base of trees but found nothing; no bromeliads
here. Continued uphill to edge of forest, which changes from pine
to oak. Found a big P. lynchi under a piece of cut wood -
