into, Sean 2009 Nov. 14 Loma Alta Microwave station 6 km ENE Chicauquies, Nayarit, Mex. Woke up kind of late (exhausted from starting so early yesterday) and had to fix a problem with my bank card in order to withdraw money. Eventually left Xalapa in late morning and drove to Banderilla, then to Naolinco and on to Chicauquies. Turned off on road to Loma Alta and drove all the way to the microwave station at the end. A small oak forest remains around the station, with lots of good logs on the ground. I started searching here at 13:06 and searched for ~45 min without finding [illegible] anything. Walked along ridge through cattle pasture to a bigger patch of forest extending along ridge and down slopes. Large, very mossy oak trees and moderate amount of leaf litter. Searched primarily under logs until 16:15. Found a juvenile Pseudurycea (ephialis?) under a very small piece of wood. Opened 3 bromeliads (almost the only ones I saw) and searched in loggy bromeliad on the ground. Again, conditions seemed very favorable, but results were disappointing. Forest was somewhat disturbed by logging of individual trees and by livestock, but had tons of logs + could definitely have salamanders still. Drove to Naolinco looking for places to stop at lower elevation but didn't find any habitat. Spent the night in a not-so-great hotel in Naolinco, which seems to have one zapateria for every 3 inhabitants. The day was clear and warmer than yesterday, probably around 20°C.
