Rtr, Sean 2008 Journal Aug. 4 Parque Nacional Laguna Jackua Aepus Atta Herpays Australan We spent the morning preparing specimens (Andrea + D) and turtle trapping (Jed+Carlos). They collected 11 Kinisterna from 2 roads along the road east of the park entrance. We walked to the laguna in the afternoon; along the way, I raked through leaf litter in the trusses of big trees looking for Geodipsia, with no success. We went swimming in the laguna, which was spectacular, and saw many cichlids and a kingfisher (the biggest species here). We then searched a little around the visitors center, where we got a Bufo and a Basiliscus. We also saw an aguti near the visitors center. It was hot and clear all day, but a storm passed over briefly around 18:00 and it rained quite hard for about 10 min. We began walking back through the forest with lights around 19:00. We found 3 B. rufulosens, 2 (Geptobora polycticta), an Cimantodes anchon (all in the trees), a Tlinia selzoe and 2 Astrophyre elegans (saw 2 more) within about the first hour, when it was wettest and we searched most carefully. We got back to the visitors center around 22:30 and found a small Rana, a Graygaster, another A. elegans, another B. rufulosens and another B. vittulus (sleeping) along the way. I heard 3 frogs calling (D. microcephalus, Agalychnis? and one more) that I could not find/catch. Herps seem abundant here, and I wish we had more time, especially since I wanted a B. mexicana from this site.
