Sept. 2 Swiria de Omoa and PN Cusucro, Dept. Cortes, Honduras (cont.) ... We left and drove back to Brujos Aires. Misael, Jesus and Wilsmer told us they had each searched for 3 days for salamanders. Misael got 90 B. rubescens (we later lost 3) and 1 M. salvae, Jesus got 5 B. rubescens, and Wilmer got 2 adult female and 1 subadult B. deleani; and a 2 pleomorphus from somewhere below the town. We had to wait until 18:00 to go to the park since they had a meeting. So, Misael, Jesus, Jesus' 11 yr old son Helmar and I went up to the visitors center in Cusucro and started searching with lights at night near the visitors center. I found a B. diaphora, a juvenile Bolitoglossa and an adult B. cananti out on vegetation; it had rained and conditions were perfect for salamanders. We searched from 19:00-21:00 and then made dinner. Jesus and I went back out after dinner in the area where we worked on 8/29/07 and I got 2 B. diaphora while he found a B. cananti, all on vegetation. We searched ~22:30-23:30, at which point Jesus went to sleep. I continued to search along the Sendero del Intejal until 01:00 and got 2 more B. diaphora on vegetation. This was the only time I heard many frogs - at least 2 species, apparently in the trees rather than along the stream. We had hoped to find a Crystotriton, but it didn't happen. We slept on mats in the visitors' center.
