Franits, Dean 2006 Journal Olanche Creek, Chyco NF, Amys Cr., CA (cont) May 23 led down to a big waterfall (~10m high) in the main creek. I hiked up across this canyon onto the ridge and then made my way down another side canyon to the main creek. The vegetation of the south slope was scattered piñon pine with some oaks, Ephedra, and scrubby desert vegetation. I reached the creek at 4PM at an elevation of 5300 ft. There were lots of areas shaded by willows along the creek, as well as granite walls with mossy seep areas, especially next to the small cascades along the creek. I ascended the creek, flipping rocks and checking in the cracks, but found nothing. I eventually reached a cascade with a nice mossy splash zone at [illegible] 5600 ft elev., which I checked with no success (36.26568°N, 118.06605°W [WGS84, 11macc], 1707m elev.). I had to turn back at this point, since it was 5:30PM. I did not reach the side canyon at 5900 ft where Derham Diulini found both Hydromantes and Batrachosaps together, but the habitat I searched looked good. I climbed up along the north canyon wall, heading east, through sparse grass, lowbush and piñon to a red-colored slide area, which I ascended to a saddle around 6000 ft. I then walked NE for ~100 m, reaching the edge of the mountain. I hiked down a steep, loose rocky slope, ending up on the N side of the creek. I hiked back to my car, arriving at 8:30PM. The day was sunny and very warm.
