Ravitz, Dean 2006 Journal "Fourth of July Clutes", Ellis Peak area, Eldorado NF, Placer Co. and Conness Lakes, Inyokern NF, Mono Co., CA Aug.12 Swals # Age class/sex Photo Kind Conness Lakes 1 (CnL1) subadult 1030179 B,V CnL2 juvenile (large) 1030180 I walked further west along the base of North Peak to the north side of the highest lake in the basin. The area was very extensive seeps habitat here but I found nothing (37.97682°N, 119.31229°W [WGS84, 8m acc.], 3377 meters). I stopped searching at 2230 and returned to camp. Aug.13 Jen Lakes, Yosemite National Park, Tuolumne Co., CA I hiked out of Conness Lakes in the morning and did a day hike to Jen Lakes. When I got there, I could see areas that had been seeps in many areas around the lakes, but all appeared dry. I went to the cliffs on the south side of the lakes. These cliffs clearly had very extensive seaps earlier in the summer but now only had a tiny wet area. I searched it from 1440-1500 but found only 1 Nebria (37.89692°N, 119.53140°W [WGS84, 6m acc.], 2834m elev.). The seeps had nice mossy cracks with the yellow Mimulus I often see at salamander sites, along with grass and other vegetation. The habitat here seems like it would be quite good for salamanders earlier in the summer. There were no other nearby areas to search that I could see, so I hiked back out.
