Writer, Sean 2005 Journal Oct. 27 ... Corda Jacpan, Depto. Chimaltenango, Guatemala (sat) Zanil Ridge south of Quetzaltenango, but there was a long delay on the Panamericana. A mudslide from Hurricane Stan had blocked the road, and a large truck got stuck in the mud on the detour. We waited for over two hours to get by, and then just drove to Huehuetenango without stopping. Oct. 28 Huchuetenango to Barillas, Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, Depto. Huehuetenango, Guatemala We drove from Huchuetenango up into the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, with Barillas as our destination. We drove through most of the highest country without stopping to look for salamanders, since it appeared to be quite dry. Once the road began to descend toward San Juan Chichay, it began to look more moist. We stopped in a spot with a few houses, about 9 Km S W of [illegible]San Juan chichay), and searched for 40min on the hill across the road from the houses. The area was grassy with small trees, and some stumps and rocks. It looked very disturbed and spots were being farmed in small plots. I found a subadult Bolitoglossa rostrata under the level of a stump. It was in a rather dry spot and its tail fell off before I got it back to the car ([illegible] 15. 57256 N, 91.45562 W [WG584, 20m acc.), 2852m eler).
