Lemmus trimucronatus
June
the area exposed to date shows
little sign and no nests. there are no
owls or jaegers in the area. I think
we had better give up our ideas about
a high.
10 June
the melt is revealing low polygon
troughs with more sign, including
a few nests, in Britton's Area.
12 June
of 4 nests examined in 5, 1
had been predated. that had the
cranium and intact abdomen of a
♀ Lemmus - pregnant, with 20mm.
embryos - 4 in left horn, 2 in right horn.
also found a ♂ Lemmus dead - apparently
trapped in a runway by collapsing
slush.
13 June
Began systematic lemming nest
census today in Britton's Area. Bee
nest record on separate sheet. the
level of predation was high.
