outside lab. (ca. 7:30 P.M.)
15 June
(4:00 P.M.) Observed copulation by
fork in gas line. M holding tail region of F
in bill, pulls around area 1 ft. radius. After
go - F moves ca. 1 ft away - assumed
receptive posture : tail held up, wings down)
head and body down -
Ca. 5 sec - M hops on, fluttling wings. Remains ca. 6 sec, hopped
off. F assumed very rigid, contracted posture -
wings down, tail up, neck and head turned
and pointed up. . Held rigid while
F "dances" in very upright posture around bar.
After 10 sec, hopped on briefly (3 sec), then off
and resumes "dancing". 10 sec, move F moves 8 ft.
away to feed (still moving strangely). M began
to feed.
