Maclen 1968 Calorius lapponicus 16 May these are very abundant in the uplands areas here. they appear to be but recently arrived - some ± settled ♂♂ squabbling over territories and chasing any ♀ that happens by. Flocks are still moving through - up to 50 in a flock - appear to be more ♂ than ♀. Some song, but no fully developed (i.e.-several songs in succession in a single flight). Most of singing is still from the ground. 17 May In the early morning saw many birds fluffed up along the road - not too much activity. Later birds were more active. Saw flocks of ca. 60 and 120 birds - mostly ♂. Not much interaction among flocking birds, but settled birds displayed actively after flock moves through. the flock of 60 spends at least 2 hours on the hillside WE of camp.
