MacLea 1967 Nyctea scandiaca 5 June Hedro reports of numerous owls in the area, including 1 spending much of the winter near NBS. Saw a ♀ on P's plot and a ♂ along NE shore of Honeybucket Lagoon. Cade reports 2 nesting attempts - 2 egg nest at W end of Beach Ridge, 6 C? (think) egg nest S. of that about 1/2 mile. Found that the visiting German photographer had erected a canvas blind near the latter, so I left it undisturbed. A ♂ was sitting on the large mound on W. Gasline R. 8 June Many birds in the area. Found the 2 egg nest - now 3. ♂ came over and copulated as soon as we flushed the ♀, then both perched by S end of honeybucket Lagoon. Photographer's blind still by W W gadiie nest. ♂ on Gasline mound probably belongs here. Another pair - v. suspicious- further East on Gasline R. ♂ seen in "Moth flight" and Dracula Display- twice with lemming in mouth. they are either laying or about to start. Other singles and pairs scattered around the area. But the scarcity of lemmings is puzzling. 3 egg nest has 1 lemming.
